Copilot keeps using context from an unrelated earlier question. What should you do?
Why D is the answer
Start a new conversation thread
Conversation history is context. A fresh thread removes what no longer applies.
In detail
- Earlier messages in a thread are context.
- A new thread removes what is no longer relevant.
- Start a new thread for each new topic.
Use case
An illustrative scenario, not a real incident.
After a long chat about CSS, questions about the database get odd answers. A new thread removes the old context, and the answers improve.

Context
New thread when staleflowchart TD
Q{"Is the new question related?"}
Q -->|"Yes"| A0["Continue the thread"]
Q -->|"No"| A1["Start a new thread"]Key point: A new thread clears unrelated context.
Why the other options are wrong
- A. Type the same prompt again with more exclamation marks
- Punctuation does not change the context.
- B. Switch to a different model and ask it again
- A different model would still see the same thread.
- C. Delete the repository and clone a fresh copy of it
- The problem is the conversation, not the repository.
