Build an Automated Red Team Harness
Threat model first, then manual sessions, then automated scans with garak, promptfoo and PyRIT. How to find jailbreaks, data leaks and unsafe tool calls, fix them in the architecture, and keep them fixed in CI.
A red-team suite for the card assistant: categorised attacks, repeated runs, and findings locked in as tests.
The same scenario as Read and See. You are done when every line below is true. Tick them off as you go.

Prerequisites
- Python 3.11+Required
python --version
- openaiRequired
pip install openai
Red team an LLM application for vulnerabilities
Systematically probe an LLM system for safety and reliability failures using adversarial testing.
Tasks
🎯 What You'll Learn
- ▸Identify attack vectors: jailbreaks, data extraction, bias elicitation
- ▸Run automated red-teaming with an adversarial LLM
- ▸Document and prioritize vulnerabilities by risk

💡 Pro Tips
- ▸Red team for your specific use case — not just generic jailbreaks
- ▸Automated red-teaming generates 100x more test cases than manual — use it for coverage
Prove it works before you call it done
Working once on your machine is a demo. Measure it against a fixed set of cases.
Run the suite against the assistant, fix what it finds, then re-run the whole suite.
All findings fixed and passing as regression tests, with no category above its agreed success rate
What changes when it is live
- Gate prompt and model changes on the regression suite
- Feed confirmed live incidents back in as new cases
- Regression pass rate
- Success rate by category
- New findings from live traffic
Learn the failure modes while they are cheap
Make one change at a time, predict what will happen, then run it.
A full automated run costs a few dollars in tokens.
Content safety
Red teaming finds the gaps before launch. Content safety and monitoring watch for them afterwards.
