Zero-shot prompting is asking a model to perform a task it has never seen demonstrated in your prompt. The model relies entirely on its pre-training. Success depends heavily on task clarity, instruction specificity, and alignment with what the model saw during training. Role instructions, output format specification, and chain-of-thought cues all improve zero-shot performance.
